By now you have probably learned that I love companies which make their skin care products with all natural ingredients and also do their best in protecting the environment. Dragonfly Soaps is one of these companies and I am honored to be able to work with them on this review.
The soap-maker Jackie Barth actually loves and understands every single part of the soap making process. It’s not just mixing of the right ingredients that makes great soap, it’s knowing the technical and sensual parts as well as the value to community that it brings. When every soap bar is handmade, it carries a lot more love and meaning in it as opposed to when it’s produced in a huge factory where human touch has nothing to do with product, it’s all about the machines. Dragonfly Soaps also runs their small business in the greenest possible manner. Their labels and print materials are made of eco-friendly recycled paper. All leftover slivers and end cuts of bars of soap are recycled or donated. Nothing gets thrown away. Dragonfly Soaps is a proud member of Green America and the Handcrafted Soapmakers Guild.
Dragonfly Soaps carries such a wide collection of natural soap bars that it was hard to choose just two! I decided on a Baby Soap and the Tangerine Moisturizer Soap. These soaps weight 4oz and retail for $5 each. So how do they compare to other natural soaps? They are a shorter in length, but are quite a bit thicker, which makes them easier to hold in my hands than other soap bars. They are also not as slippery and do not fall out of my hands during bath time. The Baby Soap I got for my little guy. He actually enjoys soap bars more than shampoos or baby washes. I wash his hair with a baby wash, but his body with a soap bar, and he loves to help! This is probably the first soap, which he can hold by himself, because it doesn’t slip out from his hands. The Baby Soap smells like… soap :) There are no additives or fragrances, because it is meant for sensitive skin. Little guy is prone to rashes and did not get any reaction from this soap bar. The Tangerine Soap is a customer favorite as stated on their website. I was curious to try it and it did not disappoint. Though I did not find that it had a true orange scent, it smelled more like a mixture of soap and light orange fragrance.
I always scan the ingredients list to see what I’m about to use. The Baby Soap is made with Saponified oils of coconut, palm, avocado, shea butter, sweet almond and jojoba. And the Tangerine Soap has only a few variations for color and scent – Saponified oils of olive, coconut, palm, wheat germ, macadamia, cocoa and shea butters. Tumeric and paprika added for color. Scented with tangerine, orange, and litsea essential oils. Sodium lactate added for hardness. To me, the ingredient list is as natural and pure as it can only be.
Overall, I have really enjoyed trying out Dragonfly Soaps. I even tried washing my face with these soaps for the first time in my life and it felt so great! You can feel that they have been made with love (I’m serious here). I love that they are handmade in small batches and contain only natural ingredients. There are 5 categories you can choose from – unscented soap, earthy & mysterious soap, workhorse soap, almost edibles soap and lavender & flowers soap. No matter how picky you are, I’m sure you will find a scent which will please you.
