Kusmi Tea Review & Giveaway

I am a self-confessed tea addict. My cupboard is always stocked with 50+ varieties of tea and I drink tons of it throughout the day. Maybe not so much during the summer, but during winter days – hot tea is my best friend. I like all kinds of tea, from plain black, green, red and white to herbal and flavored. When I see a new brand or flavor I haven’t tried yet, I can’t help but throw it into the grocery basket so I can go home and indulge in the new flavor!

If you visit tea boutiques or gift stores, you might have seen Kusmi Tea around. It’s sold in beautiful metal tins. Kusmi Tea has a beautiful history. It all started back in 1867 with a 14 year old boy from a peasant family who needed a job and landed one as a delivery boy for a tea merchant after travelling to St.Petersburg, Russia. From then on, luck was on Pavel Kousmichoff’s side. He married into a successful family, his tea shop employer gifted him a small tea house and with 11 tea shops his tea company became one of the largest in Russia. His soon took on the family business and expanded Kusmi shops to London, Paris and Berlin. This company was huge success until 1970s when the owner had to sell it due to his poor business skills. In 2003 Kusmi Tea finally found new owners, the Orebi brothers who also come from a line of commodity merchants. They developed an international reputation for the brand and Kusmi Tea is now available even over here in Canada.

Since I myself am from Russia, I’ve always had an eye out for Kusmi Tea. I have tried a couple of their bagged flavors, but never the real good stuff – the loose leaf tea. I got a chance to try out their Be Cool blend. It is caffeine-free herbal blend of plants, verbena, liquorice, and peppermint. The addition of rose hip adds minerals and antioxidants and purifies the body, while verbena and peppermint relax it. And the pretty metal tin is a great addition to any kitchen.

Be Cool Tea is ready to enjoy after 5-8 minutes of brewing. Sure loose leaf is not as convenient as tea bags are, but the flavor you can get from leaves is in completely different league than tea bags. Putting a tea pot on the table as opposed to giving out tea bags is a sure way to impress your guests. Flavor that stood out the most for me was peppermint, it’s very subtle, but it is the main flavor base for the tea with slights notes of the rest of the ingredients (liquorice, verbena leaves, apple, rosehip seeds and anis seeds). If you are not a peppermint tea fan, you might wanna look into Kusmi’s other flavors as they have something for every palate. But if you are a fan, just like I am, then you will love this relaxing blend! I had to contain myself from not just gulping down the tea, but actually taking time and enjoy every sip. It is a delicious blend and is guaranteed to relax you. For me, there is nothing better than a good cup of tea.

Kusmi Tea offers a great variety of different blends, starting with the basics such as plain black tea from China or India and expanding into blends like black tea with bergamot, citrus and flowers. I was also pleased to see that they have some organic tea. Kusmi Tea definitely has something for everyone!
