{Holiday Gift Guide} Eco Nuts Review & Giveaway

I love learning about different cleaning products and different methods of cleaning. I do my laundry in cold water with eco-friendly detergents. For the most part, it does a great job. Some stains however are very hard to get off and I’ve given up on many. Recently I came across this article “Basics of Washing“. It taught me the difference between washing in cold and hot waters, what each cycle does and how chemicals work. I learned not to throw stained clothes in the dryer, because the stains would basically set forever.

Eco Nuts is the website, which blew me away with the amount of information they provide, their products line and their commitment to the environment. Co-founder if this company is a lady named Mona. She’s “a scientist, actress, model, comedian and an authority on all things Truly Eco.” This company uses soap nuts in their products. These “berries” which grow on trees have been used for centuries and you really can’t go more eco-friendly than this!

I’ve used soap nuts before and was impressed with results. I find they are the best for washing dark clothes as they don’t fade colors. Liquid detergent is my first choice as far as different detergent types go and while you can make liquid soap yourself, I would prefer it if it would already be made for me. Eco Nuts must have heard my cries and sent me their Eco Nuts Liquid Detergent.

This detergent comes in a cute itsy-bitsy aluminum bottle. The 4oz size is good for 24 regular cycles, 48 HE cycles or 96 hand washes. The giant bottles of liquid detergents you are used to are filled with water. Why use a cup of chemicals when you can use a teaspoon of natural ingredients and get the job done just as well? Eco Nuts Liquid Detergent contains no dyes, fragrances, fillers, enzymes or optical brighteners and is 100% SLS (sodium laurel sulfate) and phosphate-free. It has three ingredients – Soapberry extract, vegetable glycerin and Potassium Sorbate (food grade preservative). The bottle is made of aluminum, because it can be recycled over and over again and it’s very lightweight for shipping.

Does it actually work? The answer is simple – yes. This tiny liquid detergent has a lot of cleaning power. It does work better for me when I do a hot water cycle as opposed to cold. And it doesn’t fade colors! That’s my favorite part. I also love that it works as a softener and you don’t need to add any additional products to your laundry. I highly recommend to read “how to remove stains naturally” to go along with your Eco Nuts detergent. Before picking up chemicals to remove a stain, try a natural way and it might surprise you!

Gift It: Eco Nuts would make a great gift who ladies who are environmentally conscious and love using natural products. And those who are not into natural things, I think should still give it a try. Natural resources are more powerful and efficient than you might think! Liquid Detergent is the way to go as far as gifts go. I think actual soap nuts might scare green-newbies, although green-veterans, I think, will be impressed. Bottles starts at $9.49 and if you look up the price/chemical comparison chart, you’ll see that it’s worth it. Eco Nuts also offers natural sprays, lip balms, vegan soap and natural household cleaners.
