{Holiday Gift Guide} Purely Pleasures Review & Giveaway

Purely Pleasures is a fairly new company which was created in October 2010 by two women from Gilroy, CA. They got tired of paying for overpriced name-brand cosmetic, bath and body products and started making their own right in their kitchen! With a lot of hard work, research and experiments, they were able to launch their products on Etsy and eBay. Their products generated enough interested for them to start their own website. This company is new, but growing fast. Their products can also be found at a local boutique and at Gilroy Farmer’s Market. Keep an eye on this company as I’m positive we’ll be hearing a lot about them in the next little while.

Purely Pleasures products are handmade, 100% natural and contain no dyes, preservatives or synthetic additives. There are two types of products available – cosmetics and bath & body. In cosmetics you can find very colorful mineral eye shadows, makeup brushes and others. And in the Bath & Body section there are face scrubs, bath salts and many other natural products.

I received a whole 2 Holiday Gift Sets from Purely Pleasures to try out for myself. I got the Bath Powder Gift Set and the Bath & Body Gift Set all in one box. With a neat website feature, you can actually customize your own gift set. First of all, the box these products came in was simply beautiful. I receive a lot of packages and this was by far one of the best wrapped ones. Inside, was salt scrub, face scrub, 3 bath powders and a lip balm.

Lip Lushis made with 100% natural organic ingredients which hydrate and soften your lips. Ingredients are Soybean Oil, Sunflower Oil, Palm Oil, Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, Beeswax, Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Vitamin E.(RV $2)

My lips get really badly weathered in the winter and I use a lot of lip balms. The one I was using was also a natural peppermint one and it started burning my lips and making them worse when I had the weathered condition. When I tried the Peppermint Lip Lush, I was pleased to discover that it did not sting my poor lips. Within a couple of days my lips finally got better! I love the consistency of this lip balm, it’s smooth, thick and oily. For me, when it comes to lip balms, the oilier the better!

Luxury Bath Powders “are oat powder based. Oats are an ingredient long recognized for its ability to relieve itching and irritation while moisturizing and soothing the skin, and Baking Soda, which neutralizes acids on the skin and helps wash away oil and perspiration.” (RV $4.50 for a 3-pack)

I love using natural bath enhancement products (salts, bath bombs, bubbles, etc) and was excited to try the bath powders. After I dumped a baggy into my bath water, my bathroom filled with aroma, but my tub got filled with flower, leaf and petal pieces. I’ve had this problem before with a natural bath bomb which dissolved and left a lot of residue. I didn’t enjoy my bath as much as I would have liked to as I had to take a thorough shower afterwards and clean my tub from all the little pieces. I wish this bath powder came in some kind of a tea-bag through which the powder could be released into the water and all the flowers could steep inside.

Powdered Oat Face Scrub “is a gentle, dry scrub that turns into a soothing, rich paste when applied to wet hands and face. With ground apricot kernel and brown sugar as exfoliates, ground white willow bark as a soothing anti-inflammatory, and ground oats for deep moisturizing properties, this scrub will polish away dry, dull skin and reveal a smooth and soft complexion most ideal for the face. ” (RV $5 for 4oz)

It’s nice to renew your facial skin once in a while by using natural cleansers, scrubs, peels and whatever else exists these days. I don’t “scrub” my face too often, but when I do it’s a big treat. This was my first time trying a dry scrub. To be honest I prefer when it’s already pre-mixed, but I can see how a lack of water in the mix would prolong this product’s shelf life. It usually takes me a while to go through a jar so longer life is a good thing. This face scrub smells like oatmeal! Du-h, it’s made with oats. You can find out what to expect exactly by going to your cupboard and smelling a bag of oats. If you like what you smell, choose a plain scrub for yourself, if not, then consider adding more ingredients for an extra buck.

Even though it’s in dry form, it’s still easy to use. I add some dry oats to the palm of my hand and slowly add some water from the faucet. Using the other hand, I slowly mix the ingredients until desired consistency. Then it’s easy to spread this scrub all over the face for a luxurious exfoliating session. As easy as it goes on, it also comes off very quickly and leaves skin feeling clean and smooth. Follow with your favorite moisturizer and you are good to go!

Exfoliating Sea Salt Scrub “will turn your daily shower into a luxurious experience. Salt scrubs should be used once or twice a week for deep exfoliation. Use your scrubs before shaving or waxing to remove dead skin and get a closer shave.” (RV$9 for 8oz)

I’ve tried sugar scrubs before (and loved the results), but never a salt one. This salt scrub ended up being my favorite Purely Pleasures product. It’s so easy to spread all over body while in the shower and it feels great to be able to exfoliate your skin from head to toe (neck to toe actually). Once you wash off the salt particles, your skin stays oily, which makes it easy to get a perfect shave. Once you are out of the shower, your skin stays oily and moisturized, but not sticky. I love this effect as I don’t need to apply any other moisturizer to my skin and it saves me a lot of time. This product for me is all-in-one – soap, exfoliator, shaving cream and a moisturizer. The only thing you need to be beware of is little scratches you might have on your body as salt stings when gets onto even a minor wound. If this is a problem, consider a sugar scrub from Purely Pleasures.

Purely Pleasures are handmade with natural ingredients. You can’t really go wrong when you put the two together. This company stands out with affordable prices and generous sizes. You really have to try everything for yourself to see what you like and what you don’t. I didn’t like the bath powders as they left my tub filled with flower residue. But I’m absolutely in love the the Sea Salt Scrub and use it once/twice a week as recommended.

Purely Pleasures will make a great gift for your girlfriends, mothers or daughters. Stock up on products separately or pick up one of the Holiday Gift Sets with an option of customizing your own. Bath & Body Gift Set retails for $15 and includes gift wrap. Face care and eye shadow gift sets are also available.
